I am an American soccer midfielder who made history as one of the first openly gay male professional soccer players in the United States.

Born on November 9, 1994, in Chevy Chase, Maryland, I excelled both academically and athletically, attending George Washington University while pursuing my soccer career.

My education reflects my diverse interests beyond sports, as I developed a deep passion for art history and have become an avid art collector.

Soccer Career

I developed my soccer skills playing youth soccer in the D.C. United Academy system before signing with D.C. United as a homegrown player in 2013.

I made my Major League Soccer (MLS) debut at age 18, becoming one of the youngest players to appear for the club. After several seasons with D.C. United, I moved to Minnesota United FC in 2017.

My Coming Out Story

In June 2018, I publicly came out as gay, becoming the only openly gay male athlete active in any major U.S. professional sports league at the time. My announcement was widely celebrated throughout the sports world and made me an important figure in LGBTQ+ representation in professional sports.

After my time in MLS, I joined USL Championship side San Diego Loyal SC in 2020. Off the field, I have distinguished myself not only as an advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports but also as an intellectual and art enthusiast, bringing a unique perspective to the world of professional athletics. My passion for art history and collecting demonstrates how professional athletes can pursue rich intellectual and cultural interests alongside their sporting careers.

As a player, I am known for my technical ability in midfield, vision for distributing the ball, and versatility in both attacking and defensive roles. My combination of athletic achievement, advocacy work, and cultural interests makes me a particularly multifaceted figure in American soccer.
