When I publicly came out in 2018 by wrapping myself in a rainbow flag, I had no idea how much it would change my life on and off the field. Being an openly gay athlete in men’s professional sports is still surprisingly rare, and my own experience has shown me exactly why those barriers stick around. Here I write about my soccer career milestones, brand partnerships, advocacy work with You Can Play and Athlete Ally, and the experiences that have shaped who I am as a player and a person.
